Background & Service Record:

Captain Dalen Voss is a seasoned tactical officer in the Authority’s outer sector military operations. For years, he built a reputation on procedural discipline, high-efficiency threat containment, and unshakable loyalty to protocol. When Subject Kor (later known as Vear) vanished from surveillance grids, Voss was given lead responsibility for the search operation.

Despite deploying massive resources across Caelion and coordinating full-system sweeps, Kor remained undetected—and the failure brought Internal Oversight into the equation. Rather than being relieved of duty, Voss was forced to remain on the operation, but under the direct command of Agent Thalos, a move that publicly humiliated him and privately enraged him.

Personality

  • Disciplined – lives by structure, thrives in command.
  • Blunt – says what he thinks, unless silence is safer.
  • Proud – quietly resents losing autonomy to Thalos.
  • Loyal – to the Authority, but not its darkest parts.
  • Conflicted – follows orders, even when they disgust him
  • Voss is not a rebel—he is a soldier. But every step he takes under Thalos's command chips away at what’s left of his belief in the system.

Disposition Toward Others:

  • Toward Kor (Vear)
    • Initially underestimated Kor as a misfiled specimen
    • Now suspects Kor is more than a child—perhaps even more than human
    • Fears what Kor might become, but also questions what the Authority intends to do with him
  • Toward Agent Thalos:
    • Obeys under pressure, but fears and resents him
    • Sees Thalos as the embodiment of authoritarian cruelty
    • Hates being forced to follow him, but won’t risk open defiance
    • Speaks carefully, logs nothing, and avoids confrontation
  • Toward Director Sael:
    • Trusts Sael’s strategic vision more than Thalos’s fanaticism
    • Knows Sael plays the long game and hides truths behind data
    • Hates being forced to follow him, but won’t risk open defiance
    • Speaks carefully, logs nothing, and avoids confrontation

Narrative Role:

  • Initial Commander of the Kor Containment Effort
  • first Appears:leading the search effort from Caelion’s planetary surveillance nexus
  • As Kor’s trail goes cold, Voss is overridden by Thalos, who assumes direct authority but keeps Voss in place to manage logistics and military coordination
  • From that point on, Voss must carry out Thalos’s commands, even those that violate his instincts and ethics
  • He becomes a quietly brooding figure, stuck between duty and conscience
  • Key Quote: “We wouldn’t even be in this mess if the damn cultural anthropology team hadn’t mixed up the specimens. Gave him the wrong ID tag. Can you believe that?”
